SUMMARY OF ROLE
SunPower is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Commodities, to join the leadership team of our market-leading solar panel company. The individual will be responsible for defining and driving the Global Commodity strategy for strategic sourcing, category management, and purchasing. Proactively support regional sales operations and local factories to fulfill their procurement needs, while continuously building and improving strategic supplier relationships, pricing competitiveness, and service.
This individual will be responsible for establishing strategic partnerships with qualified suppliers, driving continual improvement and cost reduction with material and service vendors, and managing supplier agreements programmatically. The Global Commodity Director will manage a department of category managers as well as closely working with procurement specialists and buyer/planners.  The Global Commodity Director will work closely with manufacturing resources, R&D and Product leadership teams to fill business requirements and material supply needs. The Global Commodity Director will work to cultivate partnership-based relationships with key suppliers; and to be a champion for these partners, while also ensuring SunPower needs are met. They will use their awareness of the product lifecycle pipeline and cost road map to develop supplier interest and preferential pricing, with a focus on quality, design for manufacturer and performance. The Global Commodity Director articulates the multi-year procurement strategy for the business and coordinates bidding and vendor selection, contract negotiation, and execution planning.  Successful candidates will have deep experience in the solar industry, with demonstrated knowledge of strategic procurement, supplier performance management and operational procurement.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
•    Develop and execute an integrated strategy and action plan to optimize cost and service; Manage and adhere to budget.
•    Own the overall Commodity Management/Procurement transformation plan; including responsibility for ensuring the function constantly evolves and raises the bar.
•    Direct the management of all global procurement services, including outsourced services; Liaison with Sales Operations leadership and manage Global Commodity Council.
•    Develop long-term sourcing strategies; Direct development, implementation and improvement of Key Performance Indicators globally.
•    Define governance and guidelines in the evaluation, selection, negotiation and relationships with suppliers to improve costs, terms, and standards of service; Own and maintain all policies and procedures pertinent to the procurement process.
•    Management responsibilities include staffing decisions, mentoring/developing team members, assigning resources as needed to ensure success of key objectives.
•    Development of a strong cross-functional relationship between global commodity management, site procurement, site supply chain teams, and other functions to enhance improve efficiencies across the enterprise.
•    Define and develop a complete Business Continuity Plan for key critical commodities.
•    Develop and implement category strategies and strategic sourcing events to optimize total cost of ownership with a focus on value, performance and quality execution.
•    Lead negotiations of Master Service and Master Supply Agreements.
•    Identify and establish relationships with key suppliers regionally and nationally.
•    Drive measurable cost savings throughout product lifecycle.
•    Manage the work of buyers, planners, and contracts managers.
•    Coordinate with R&D, Manufacturing, Category Managers, Buyers and Planners to develop meaningful portfolio-level RFQ and RFP.
•    Approve all Purchase Orders and Supply Agreements.
•    Lead periodic strategic commodity reviews, compiling feedback from project teams and suppliers.
•    Maintain a meaningful supplier knowledge base, including regional coverage, core competencies, and performance history.
•    Engage Engineering and Project Management teams with any potential savings or schedule improvement opportunities presented by suppliers.
•    Administer inventory management and logistics for major capital equipment including owner furnished equipment and safe harbor equipment.
•    Ensure SOX and corporate governance compliance for all purchases and relationships.
•    30% of business travel required, mostly in Asia, position based in Singapore.

Minimum Requirements
•    Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience
•    OR an equivalent combination of education and years of related experience
•    Experience in Construction Industry. Solar, civil, and/or mechanical preferred.
•    Demonstrated ability in contract negotiation and management.
•    Demonstrated ability to read construction plans.
•    Expertise with Design and Build Contracts.
•    Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
•    Fluent in English and in Chinese.
•    Demonstrated ethics and integrity.
Preferred requirements
•    Engineering, Business or Supply Chain Management degree.
•    Familiarity with standards and technical certification requirements for renewable energy system design and components (wind, solar, storage.
•    Demonstrated ability to collaborate with central, regional and international team members.
•    Demonstrated ability to work in a rapid-paced, highly dynamic business environment.
•    Knowledge and experience with Continuous Improvement (i.e. 8D, Six Sigma methodologies).
•    Great interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interface and maintain relationships at all levels of an organization.
•    Ability to thrive in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment.
