SunPower is seeking an intern for our IBC Backend Group.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):


  • Innovate and validate design ideas for the next-generation high effiiciency modules
  • Design and conduct experiments to evaluate the ideas
  • Characterize the optical performance and weatheribility of the novel material
  • Develop a manufacturable process for the next-gen modules
  • Write reports/presentation summarizing the experimental results




Minimum requirements - The least amount of skills and training candidates must have to do a specific job.  Candidates not meeting these requirements will not be hired for this position.


  • Min 3 years towards BS in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or equivalent. Graduate students are encouraged to apply.
  • Able to design and execute experiments, collect and analyze data and report experimental results
  • Demonstrate a strong technical knowledge and the ability to solve cross-disciplinary problems
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Power Point) required
  • Good working attitude, able to multi-task a variety of projects
  • Quick learner, independent, able to work and deliver results with minimum supervision


Preferred requirements


  • Coursework in engineering polymer science, material characterization, fabrication processing, advanced optics, and physical modeling
  • Research experience in material development and characterization
  • Hands-on experience on mechanical testing of materials such as tensile test, DMA etc
  • Hands-on experience on material characterization techniques such as FTIR, DSC, Rheology, UV-vis, Leakage test etc
  • Knowledge of highly accelerated life tests such as damp heat, thermal cycling, UV exposure and lifetime modeling
  • Self-starter and comfortable with owning projects



Intern Program Overview

  • 13-26 week program OR part-time 6 months (whichever works best for student)
  • Interns will individually work under the direction of their managers.
  • All interns will complete the program by the last day of December 2019.  At the completion of the program, the intern will be evaluated and considered for possible future full time employment upon graduation.
  • Hourly-based, paid internship
