Job Description:

Develops new or modified metrology tools for solar cells and modules, defines test equipment requirements and specifications, and reviews measurement procedures applied in the manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of products. Builds opto-electrical setups to improve SunPower’s inline-metrology and develops software solutions involving image processing. Analyzes large data sets and builds comprehensive reports to monitor the measurements from different SunPower factories. Builds physical models for power prediction based on cell architecture and module design and material properties. Coordinates design requirement review with appropriate engineering/scientific personnel to ensure compatibility of metrology tools. Conducts critical experiments, compiles and evaluates test data to determine the uncertainty of the metrology output parameters and drive improvements of accuracy. May conceive and plan projects involving definition and selection of new concepts, equipment, and approaches in the metrology steps or development new or improved tools. Ability to travel alone to visit vendors and production line to provide technical inputs.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Physics, Material Science, Electrical Engineering or other related field and 5+ years of related experience; M.S. Degree and 3+ years of related experience; or Ph.D. without experience.
  • or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

 

Preferred requirements:

  • Deep understanding of semiconductor metrology techniques used to evaluate the device performance. This would include electrical measurements, solar simulators, photoluminescence imaging, visual inspection, SEM, etc.
  • Experience with image processing, handling big data sets, building physical models or predictive models using machine learning
  • Handson experience with semiconductor or photovoltaic devices fabrication process.
  • Significant experience with design of experiments (DOE) and the statistical analysis of the data (e.g. JMP, R).
  • Excellent Python coding skills, experience with MySQL or other database management tools
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems both individually and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills. Fluent in English. Additional language capability is a significant asset.
