Summary of Role:

SunPower is seeking a seasoned, talented, hands-on Eng Technician to join our Module Laboratory Operations team.  This position will be directly involved with the qualification of next-generation module design, technology, and solar cells. The ideal candidate will possess a strong eye for detail, providing feedback to product engineers for further advancement of the product or design. The ideal candidate has also demonstrated experience in being part of defining and managing short- or long-term testing schedules.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Drive the successful completion of complex module work orders by managing one’s workflow and priorities, proactively seeking advice from a supervisor, engineer or more experienced team members if needed.
  • Support the creation from design to sample construction, unique solar cell interconnect processes and test samples.
  • Drive the completion of Reliability Testing to define the design and product reliability by engaging and/or performing sample maintenance or characterization.
  • Support the testing and characterization of full-size modules as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates degree and 5+ years of related solar module experience OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience preferred.

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as
    • Excel,
    • Word,
    • Outlook,
    • PowerPoint.
  • Computer Literate (Ability to navigate networks, files, subfiles, create, delete, and modify documents as required)
  • Works well in Teams or Alone
  • Excellent Attention to Detail
  • Excellent Communication Skills
    • Ability to communicate with people who possess different levels of solar knowledge or skills.  
    • Comfortable with the use of email as the main source of communication.
  • Strong Technical Background with experience in the following areas:
    • Solar Cell Soldering
    • Solar Module Assembly and Encapsulation
    • Solar Module Testing and Failure Modes

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solar and/or Clean Room Experience
  • Soldering and/or Rework
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Understands Moderately Complex Drawings and can fill in Missing Details
  • Follows Directions and is Comfortable with Rapid Changes in Direction or Priority
  • Effective communicator (especially English)
  • Works well in Teams or as a Sole Contributor
  • Experience with Metrology Tools
  • Experience with Tensile Tester, Environmental Chambers, Power Supplies
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles (can use a DMM to measure circuit voltage, etc)
  • General Mechanical Skills (using saws, drills, hammers, etc)
  • Comfortable Working with High Voltages

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in a Laboratory Environment with exposure to the following hazards.
    • High Voltage/Shock Hazards
    • Loud Noise
    • Pinch and Crush hazards
    • Slip Hazards
    • Trip Hazards
    • Chemical Hazards
    • Laser Hazards
    • Extreme Temperatures
  • Must be able to stand for most of the workday
  • Must be able to operate a forklift
  • Must have the ability to lift 40 pounds regularly.
  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
