Critical executive governance role leading corporate-wide technical accounting and external financial reporting functions for SunPower. In this role, the individual will –

  • Support all areas of the company in negotiating and accounting for complex global transactions.
  • Report to the Corporate Controller – lead policy implementations, technical analysis, SEC reporting process, and serve as a key relationship manager for the company’s external auditor and with the SEC.
  • Directly partner with corporate planning, treasury, investor relations, tax, equity compensation, and internal audit functions.
  • Facilitate communication with Executive Staff and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Based in San Jose, CA, this individual will manage a team of 3-5 accounting professionals, and also utilize finance & accounting professionals in field functions to ensure proactive and strategic compliance.

     Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Lead corporate technical accounting team in the performance of research, the determination of financial reporting and disclosure impact, ensuring timely adoption of new accounting standards such as ASC 606/IFRS 15 and ASC 842/IFRS 16, and preparation of technical accounting memos.
  • Be the ‘leading edge’ of new accounting pronouncements and training executives and Company personnel on changes and impact.
  • Lead SEC reporting process, including the preparation of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and others as needed. Serve as the primary interface between the company and the SEC on financial disclosure matters.
  • Lead global equity administration process, including interaction with human resources and executives.
  • Lead accounting close for selected matters, including stock compensation expense, hedging, and selected aspects of revenue recognition.
  • Interact directly with controllership team members as well as key leadership in multiple functions across the finance function as well as business leaders
  • Serve as a key relationship manager with the external auditors, including management of audit deliverables and fee negotiation on non-routine transactions.
  • Manage Audit Committee process, including agenda and materials preparation, and present selected key matters as required.
  • Provide input into corporate incentive compensation programs, and assist in providing actual results to measure exec and team performance.
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships and serve as a key business partner during the negotiation of transactions to ensure desired accounting outcomes.
  • Lead accounting due diligence process on potential acquisitions. Assist with negotiations as required.
  • Lead vendor and SAAS relationships for outsourced solutions for financial reporting and hedging.
  • Run the Company’s Technical Review Committee as a forum for formulating accounting positions in a team environment, training team members, and developing execution plans.
  • Travel 10-15% based on needs of the business.


Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of people management experience
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience



  • Executive presence, with excellent communication, interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Superior time management and prioritization capabilities, with demonstrated success working in a deadline driven, multi-tasking environment
  • Ability to make the complex simple
  • Strong financial accounting and reporting experience required
  • Highly proficient in Excel analysis and in creating PowerPoint presentations
  • Ability to embrace change and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, matrix environment.
  • Ability to influence business partners
  • Maintain and reinforce integrity in all circumstances
  • Experience leading and building a high-performing organization
  • Travel to international locations, manage and motivate teams, and deliver results
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, with experience in France and the Philippines a plus
  • B.S. degree or higher in Business or Accounting or equivalent MBA
  • CPA, preferably active type ‘A’ designation, or equivalent
  • Big Four audit senior manager experience, with national office experience preferred
  • At least 10 years of working experience, including 5 of managerial experience
  • Strong and detailed knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS accounting, including accounting for: cash flows, earnings per share, segment reporting, equity investments, intangibles, real estate, restructuring, revenue recognition, share-based compensation, business combinations, derivatives, fair value measurements, foreign currency, and leasing.
