Module Products R&D Engineer

 

SUMMARY OF ROLE

 

SunPower is seeking an R&D Engineer for our Module Products Group.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

 

  • Develop new processes for advanced module designs
  • Run indoor and outdoor experiments for reliability testing of solar cells and modules
  • Use material lifetime models to estimate field degradation from environmental stresses
  • Investigate existing and new failure modes for impact on new module designs
  • Work with team to design and deploy new, better, faster, and more reliable test methods
  • Collaborating closely with SunPower’s cell development team to assess and refine current and future cell topologies enhancing their reliability

 

RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Minimum requirements - The least amount of skills and training candidates must have to do a specific job.  Candidates not meeting these requirements will not be hired for this position.

  • Min BS in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent.
  • Able to learn and work in a lab and outdoors to make and test prototype solar module samples
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Good working attitude, able to multi-task a variety of projects
  • Quick learner, independent, able to work and deliver results with minimum supervision
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to travel internationally to Mexico, Europe, Malaysia, the Philippines, and China

 

Preferred requirements

  • Familiar with DFMEA, 8Ds, and other methodical means to predict and analyze failures
  • Familiar with mechanical testing of materials
  • Familiar with testing of solar cells (IV measurements)
  • Familiar with Design of Experiments and statistical methods
  • Experience with thermocouples, IR cameras, and data acquisition systems
  • Experience with Python and computational modeling
  • Experience with IOT (Arduino, Raspberry pi, Phidgets, etc)
