Summary of Role:

The ideal candidate will have experience designing, evaluating, manufacturing and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems deployed in photovoltaic power generating systems. Areas of focus include but are not limited to module mounting systems, DC cable routing and power collection systems, inverters, and grounding systems. The candidate should be familiar with engineering best practices that enable efficient problem-solving. Good communication skills are needed to provide feedback to product development and equipment selection teams with the goal of ensuring long-term reliable operation in harsh outdoor environments.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

This role will be expected to:

  • Assist in the selection of materials that are resistant to UV exposure, corrosion, and high temperatures.
  • Evaluate the resistance of systems to wind, snow, ice, and other environmental stresses
  • Determine root cause(s) and failure mode(s) for problems discovered post-deployment
  • Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders (written and verbal)
  • Evaluate and analyze data from diverse sources to assess the performance of systems in development or operation
  • Define and document component/interface/system functional requirements, specific requirements (drawings and specifications), xFMEAs, test plans, and test results
  • Participate in 8D / CAPA problem-solving projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams working to solve complex problems
  • Self-motivated when the task or project does not require collaboration


Minimum Education and Experience:

  • BSME and 5+ years of related experience or MSME and 3+ years of experience
  • Proficient in MS productivity suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working with photovoltaic solar energy generation and associated electrical and mechanical balance of systems
  • Familiar with industry best practices to ensure systems operate safely and reliably in harsh outdoor environments
  • Proficient with Solidworks CAD package
  • Proficient in JMP or Minitab statistics software
  • Exposure to NEC 690 and applicable UL standards for solar photovoltaic systems
