Project Development Analyst (US Commercial Channel)


As a Commercial Channel Project Development Analyst, you will use existing systems and develop new approaches to create winning dealer proposals that maximize value for customers, and profit for Commercial Dealers and SunPower. As you build compelling proposals for commercial customers, you will use your effective questioning and analytical skills to collaborate with salespeople to understand needs, solutions, financing, and all other parts of the detailed value proposition. In addition to creating accurate financial benefit models and translating them into clear documents and presentations, you will find the best ways to systematically leverage successes and learn from failures. We are looking for a candidate with strong, creative problem-solving skills and a proven ability to achieve results in a fast-moving, dynamic environment. The candidate should be self-motivated and self-directed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Analyze deals in order to provide the highest margin for SunPower, the best net present value for the customer, and attractive profitability for the SunPower Dealer. Use these analyses to create complete proposals that will win the maximum number of sales.
  • Build and maintain a process for submitting deals and prioritizing them for consideration, including value confirmation and price exceptions.
  • Monitor the dealer pipeline, proactively identify projects to focus on, and contribute the analyses which will have the greatest impact.
  • Help build and manage a price book within for online pricing configuration and self-service automation for commercial quote generation.
  • Build, manage, and deliver reports to effectively manage the initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Project Finance Group to understand and participate in creative deal structuring, new financing options, power purchase agreements, etc.
  • Continually streamline, standardize and improve proposal processes and systems for all SunPower system types.
  • Form excellent working relationships with other SunPower departments, including Commercial Sales, Projects, Engineering and Finance, to promptly and efficiently drive proposals through to the Dealers and/or end customers.
  • Determine the feasibility and unique cost savings for new value propositions.
  • Periodically analyze orders and quotes to determine hit rates, top market segments, the effectiveness of different value propositions, sources of leads, etc.



Minimum requirements - The least amount of skills and training candidates must have to do a specific job. Candidates not meeting these requirements will not be hired for this position.

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of related experience
  • OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience


Preferred requirements

  • Sales, Marketing or Business Development background is a plus.
  • Demonstrated fluency in project economics analyses (i.e., ROI, IRR, NPV, etc.) and financing.
  • Demonstrated excellent written communication skills, with proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience navigating and developing reports using CRM software such as is desired.
  • Demonstrated skills in questioning, validation, and presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Well organized, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple, detailed tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong team player, with skill in collaboration, project coordination, and leading and facilitating team meetings
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, engineering or equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience conducting sales analyses or value-based sales proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and resolve problems and to operate with minimal supervision.
  • EPC experience in commercial projects is desirable.
