SunPower is seeking a talented, customer-centric Product Manager, Energy Storage to manage our residential energy storage solution, SunVault. This position is responsible for carrying out key activities to ensure that the product features and specifications deliver a superior customer experience. The ideal candidate will possess a strong business acumen, demonstrated background in defining and launching complex product solutions, the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-changing environment, and a passion for changing the way our world is powered.

The Product Manager, Energy Storage will support the Product Management team in managing the product lifecycle including ensuring that existing products perform to specifications and helping drive the process of developing new and innovative products to meet the needs of current and future customers.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Support engineering functions to ensure released and planned products are designed for premium installation experience and are flexible enough to ensure wide compatibility with home energy ecosystems.
  • Conceive, design and develop innovative, reliable, appealing, high performance energy storage products and accessories for residential and new homes markets.
  • Work closely with stakeholders in product management, program management, engineering and sales groups to ensure product designs meet market, manufacturability, reliability and cost requirements.
  • Partner with suppliers to ensure materials and components meet product requirements.
  • Conduct extensive prototype and reliability testing using in-house and field test environments.
  • Create reports to analyze and summarize results and present to senior management for status updates and/or continuous improvement recommendations.
  • Document product designs and assist in writing standard operating procedures for product installation and troubleshooting operations.
  • Assist in training application engineering and field operations on product installation and operation.
  • Prioritize new feature development and product revisions and ensure alignment with product roadmap
  • Gather feedback from customers and partners in order to ensure closed-loop learning in our product development efforts
  • Understand changing market and permitting requirements to ensure SunPower’s product offering complies with applicable standards



Qualification Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; proven ability to influence and work with all levels of an organization
  • Experience with batteries or other energy backup solutions
  • Solid technical foundation, ability to learn and adapt quickly, and demonstrated ability to frame and drive business decisions
  • Experience supporting customers in an external-facing role
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and a “can-do” attitude
  • Understanding of energy economics, utility rate structures, and distributed generation interconnection policies and compensation mechanisms
  • Lean product development experience is a plus



Minimum Education and Experience:

  • BS in a technical field, preferably electrical or mechanical engineering; MBA or M.S degree is a plus
  • Preferred 10 years relevant work experience
  • OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience
