SunPower is seeking an Employee Relations, Senior Specialist to manage and oversee employee relations issues and concerns including conducting investigations timely, thorough documentation, provide recommendations, and resolve issues in a prompt and professional manner. This position is also responsible for proactively researching employment laws and regulations, recommending changes, maintaining policies, and practice compliance across multiple states. The Employee Relations, Senior Specialist will provide consultation and support on HR and employee relations topics including performance management, progressive discipline, and policy interpretation. The ideal candidate should have a deep knowledge of employment related regulations as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and collaborate a cross departments with other business partners, colleagues, and legal counsel.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Handles labor and employee relations matters including routine workplace investigations, policy and issue resolution, performance management, employee separations,
  • Promptly and thoroughly conducts and manages workplace investigations of employee complaints and grievances with systematic approach to address root causes, develop and recommend actions and countermeasures, and effectively conclude investigation by facilitating a review of the decision with appropriate stakeholders and close out of actions and countermeasures.
  • Manages and handles matters requiring the interpretation and application of policies and procedures to resolve issues related to labor and employee relations matters
  • Manages and handles matters regarding employment separations (individual and group/mass layoffs) and position eliminations and restructure.
  • Develops and handles non-routine leave accommodation solutions.
  • Handles and advises on performance management issues, including development of performance improvement actions.
  • Supports and coordinates responses to internal and external employment compliance audits.
  • Helps to build and implement policies and trainings.
  • Finds opportunities to improve employee relations and helps build and implement innovative solutions, programs and policies.
  • Improves efficiency of HRBP and HR Generalists by handling core employee relations matters directly, and by providing clear and consistent guidance and solutions
  • Keeps up to date on upcoming laws and regulations helping the business adjust policies, practices and procedures accordingly.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Identify, analyze, and resolve employee relation issues
  • Update and maintain the employee handbook on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain compliance with AA/EEO standards

Credentials and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 4 years’ experience in Employee Relations
  • Experience and understanding California state labor laws and practices.
  • Understanding of ADA/ADAA and other leave of absences
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point)
  • Demonstrated verbal, written, and investigative skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Analytical with strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative
  • Knowledge of employment statutes and regulations
  • Knowledge of equal opportunity and affirmative action requirements is a plus

SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR certification preferred
