The Data Science team under SunPower Financial Products develops the end-to-end data analytics and statistical models that SunPower needs to offer a proprietary suite of world class financial products. This business serves four main customer types – consumers, dealers, home builders, and fixed income investors – each with its own unique analytical and modeling challenges. These include forecast models, propensity models for optimization of the funnel, personalization models to delight customers, credit underwriting, prepayment, interest rate, as well as portfolio analytics. 

The Data Science team is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to help us accelerate our efforts in delivering our new generation of SunPower’s Financial Products. This person will build new business intelligence solutions end-to-end. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with big data sets and have the expertise to utilize these data sets to derive insights, answer business questions and drive growth. 
 
Key job responsibilities 

  • Design, develop and maintain scaled, automated, user-friendly systems, reports, dashboards, etc. that will support our analytical and business needs for operations. 

  • Use analytical and statistical rigor to solve complex problems and drive business decisions that will help us achieve our strategic goals. 

  • Write high quality SQL code to retrieve and analyze data from database tables (ex. Redshift, MySQL, Oracle), and learn and understand a broad range of SunPower’s data resources and know how, when, and which to use and which not to use. 

  • Develop queries and visualizations for ad-hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting. 

  • Work closely with data & software engineering teams to establish analytical data store for internal and external datasets relevant to the risk of our financial products. 

Basic qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Sciences, Engineering, Finance or related field. 

  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, Data Warehouse solutions and database in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets. 

  • Written and verbal skills to effectively communicate to both business and technical teams, including defining business requirements and conveying key insights from complex analysis. 

  • Ability to work with shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Demonstrated ability to draw insights from data and clearly communicate them to both business and technical teams. 

  • Advanced skills in Excel as well as any data visualization tools like Tableau or similar BI tools. 

  • Develop and present recommendations of new metrics allowing better understanding of the performance of the business. 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Advanced degree in Sciences, Engineering, Finance or related field. 

  • Experience using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex data sets. 

  • Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing datasets from multiple sources. 

  • Experience with statistical analysis. 

  • Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language or statistics analysis language (Python, R, STATA, etc). 

  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.
