SUMMARY OF ROLE

 

SunPower is seeking a Director of Origination / Power Marketing to drive our Power Plant business growth for utility scale solar projects from approximately 10MW to 100MW in size and larger.

 

We are looking for someone with a deep network of industry contacts at investor-owned utilities, independent power producers (IPP’s), municipal power agencies and cooperatives.

 

The ideal candidate will have specific experience with solar/wind origination in wholesale/retail electric supply markets. They will be responsible for implementing the marketing strategy by developing new and existing customer relationships, proposing and structuring energy power transactions, and will have a deep knowledge of offtake and power purchase agreements (PPA’s). 

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:  

 

  • Responsible for overall strategy, pricing, and structuring of deals. 
  • Build and maintain high-level relationships with electric utility executives and corporate energy buyers and other key personnel in targeted accounts in assigned regions
  • Develop partner relationships with accounts to effectively manage the entire sales process including the contract negotiation, financing, project execution and operational phases
  • Collaborate with policy/regulatory and marketing groups to identify and develop new market      opportunities and craft utility value propositions to serve target market
  • Develop tactical execution plans for target accounts and assigned regions
  • Direct sales support team of Associates and Analysts in development of account proposals and responses to competitive RFPs
  • Lead the internal team through all aspects of a complex sales process to successful closing
  • Collaborate with colleague departments including Project Development, Project Finance, Legal, Construction Services and O&M in support of sales process
  • Expand pipeline of sales opportunities by generating and qualifying high quality leads
  • Direct outside consultant activities retained in support of sales opportunities
  • Approximately 25% travel to customer locations for meetings/presentations

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of people management experience
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • MBA strongly preferred
  • Energetic and aggressive in pursuing opportunities
  • Results-oriented with the ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong desire to advance the adoption of renewable energies in the global energy mix

 

Education and Experience:

  • University degree in engineering, economics or business
  • 10+ years’ experience in the energy industry, large construction, project finance and/or infrastructure environment, ideally in the electric power generation sector
  • 10+ years’ experience in complex selling: prospects comprise multiple "buyers" in different parts of the organization, selling a value-based proposal to large organizations in the utility sector at executive level
  • Selling $50-100M+ projects over extended sales cycles to first-time and repeat buyers for whom multiple stakeholders influence the buying decision
  • Experience introducing new product and service offerings, and developing corresponding value propositions

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and interface effectively with cross-functional employee groups of all levels and competencies
  • Ability to perform and interpret financial analysis and provide appropriate data and information
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
  • Entrepreneurial, self-starter with a burning desire to learn and win
  • Effective at creating, summarizing, and presenting information logically for executive decision making
  • Knowledge of finance and business concepts
  • Fluency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
