The Multifamily Construction Manager (CM) role is to serve as the regional field-based liaison between SunPower stakeholders and the developer/ customer. The CM will manage work site-centered relationships with customer teams, manage installation sub-contractors and construction schedules, all of which is achieved via frequent visits to construction sites.

The CM is the subject matter expert in:

  • SunPower commercial & residential construction best practices, drawings and electrical diagrams

  • construction timelines of SunPower scopes of work and how they relate to other trades

  • troubleshooting the installation of switchgear, transformers, and physical point of interconnection

  • roofing and structural implications of mounting photovoltaic equipment to new or existing structures (buildings & solar canopies.)

This position involves managing production schedules and various aspects of field quality & safety by providing detailed updates in real-time to office-based teammates and documenting key aspects of the build. Communicating often with customer superintendents, peer trades, material logistics and sub-contractors will ensure SunPower does not fall behind on project schedules.  It also involves occasionally troubleshooting subcontractor work, and commissioning systems post ‘Permission to Operate’ notification from the Utility.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Serves as the primary corporate representative to the customer superintendent, AHJ inspectors, and other project field personnel

  • Responsible for monitoring and complying with Company safety and quality goals

  • Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction with the onsite construction process

  • Responsible for understanding the planning, design, and construction process

  • Responsible for managing multiple projects at various project stages concurrently

  • Identify key construction and design components through onsite audits for the design team

  • Identify any elements of the build that will need special coordination and or modifications to construction drawings

  • Attend onsite construction meetings with developer and trades as needed

  • Responsible for collaborating with the project PM on the entire project schedule and managing specifically on sub-contractor deliverables.

    • Reviews & approves or returns with comments subcontractor 3-week look-ahead schedules.

  • Responsible for documenting field conditions and progress for assigned projects & delivering into exiting digital tools

  • Document best practices and improvements to means and methods to capture reduced construction costs or improved safety outcomes wherever possible

  • Work interdepartmentally to manage the performance of sub-contractors to

    • adopt SunPower related products and installation processes

    • correct poor performance

  • Work with authority having jurisdiction and sub-contractors to ensure requirements are met in the build and inspections are passed 

  • Conduct multiple quality and safety audits over the course of construction

  • Troubleshoot photovoltaic systems and monitoring equipment

  • Work cross-functionally to resolve field issues and provide world-class customer service to both internal and external stakeholders

  • The CA North Territory is Monterey to Merced to Yosemite and North to Oregon



Minimum requirements - The least amount of skills and training candidates must have to do a specific job.  Candidates not meeting these requirements will not be hired for this position.

  • A minimum of 8 years of design/build Construction management experience is required

  • Ability to conduct tough negotiations with customers & subcontractors

  • Strong technical, supervisory, and project management skills based on construction industry experience

  • Strong familiarity with construction and electrical codes

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Expert in the installation of roof penetrations, electrical conduits, wire handling, PV modules, transformers, and switchgear

  • Familiar with common utility service types including residential, typical commercial and 3- Phase.

  • Expert at using construction drawings and electrical line diagrams

  • Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization, as well as outside customers and vendors

  • Ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus

  • Organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and MS Project is required

  • Valid Driver’s license

  • CA State Certified Electrician (aka Journeyman's card)

  • Ability to travel between job sites


Preferred requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience is preferred

  • NABCEP Installer certified

  • OSHA 30 certification

  • Fall protection certification

  • CPR certification

  • Certificate in Solar O&M from SEI or other reputable educators
