SunPower is seeking an Applications Engineer for distributed generation  power plants to fulfill company quality goals, ensure pre and post sales customer satisfaction and enhance sales cycle and sales closure rate on opportunities within Australia and SE Asia. This individual will be responsible for managing technical project qualification and proposal requirements, and performing technical feasibility and due diligence for new large scale, commercial and residential scale opportunities. This position will work closely with the regional business development team and Sales Operations in each geographic region. The Applications Engineer position is responsible for identifying the most appropriate technical and material solutions, per program or regional incentives, or other variables to value optimize the client solution.



  • Provide technical and engineering support to EPC projects and our partner channel within APAC.
  • Assist the Product Engineering and after sales group with performance analysis and potential root cause of projects where required.
  • Responsible for maintaining constant communication with key members of the Sales team and other departments as needed on new and existing technical features of our module products
  • Site visits and meetings to support opportunities as required by level of difficulty or scope. Performs site feasibility and due diligence and documents items of concern or need for further validation.
  • Manage the sales request process for all project types and work within guidelines and set triggers to efficiently manage priorities using and other established tools. Work with key members of Sales and Operations to effectively meet submission timelines for tenders and RFP’s.
  • Perform technical due diligence for RFPs or similar as required by tender response documents.
  • Prepare any necessary customer deliverables, such as conceptual layouts, single line diagrams, recommend equipment specifications, , mechanical or electrical sheet sets or material specifications and engineering validation as requested. Clearly communicate design concept and high level system specifications.
  • . Validate design requirements for local conditions and recommend solutions.
  • Provide technical support and deliverables for performance validation models or any other technical support for commercial operation.
  • Utilize modeling tools such as PVsyst, Helioscope, OpenSolar and other production estimating tools, financial modeling tools, or material optimizing methods to validate most appropriate design and material solutions. Work with other departments to provide best estimating and modeling information.

  • BS Engineering (PV, mech or elec) required.
  • Technical PV support experience is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of Australian Standards such as AS5033, AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 1170.2, AS/NZS3008, AS/NZS1768, AS/NZS 4777, Clean Energy Council Design and Supervise/Install Guidelines,Building Code of Australia (BCA), general DNSP/TNSP interconnection requirements and NABERS/Greenstar ratings schemes.
  • Clean Energy Council Design and Install Accreditation preferred, Grid Connect/Hybrid and/or Offgrid a bonus
  • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent writing skills, both creative and technical.
  • Customer facing presentation skills preferred
  • Creative problem solving abilities under pressure essential
  • Knowledge of, Autocad and PVsyst software is mandatory.
  • Ability to work autonomously to meet multiple concurrent objectives and within an international team, with diverse cultures.
  • Previous External sales support and client management experience preferred.
  • 25% to 50% of travel to site and customer locations to be expected, sometimes at short notice.
