About the Position

Reporting to the Module Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician will become certified in the operation and maintenance of multiple automated production equipment sets in the Module production area. In this position, you will work with process and manufacturing equipment engineers to ensure efficient day-to-day production operations in a high-volume, 24x7 manufacturing facility. This state of the art manufacturing facility will be highly automated and contain both floor mount and gantry style robotics.  You will work as a team member to continuously improve production processes, equipment reliability and tool performance.


Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoot to determine robot malfunctions, using knowledge of programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, problem-solve, and maintain electrical control problems for all manufacturing equipment. Disassemble robots and/or peripheral equipment to repair or replace defective circuit boards, sensors, controllers, encoders, servomotors, servo valves, or automatic lubrication systems
  • Perform and drive safe behaviors in all tasks and areas. Initiate and drive safety improvements in the methods, machines, processes and areas.
  • Perform Minor and Major equipment maintenance tasks to established work instructions and procedures.
  • Initiate investigations and corrective actions to problems with rigorous problem solving (Cause and Effect, Root Cause Analysis) methodology.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance for tools, robotics, and other automated equipment. Initiate continuous improvements in PMs to improve uptime, safety, quality and overall cost reductions.
  • Program robot for series of manipulator (arm-hand) moves (movements) manually or by electronic instructions to a microprocessor or by setting up and adjusting sequence by hand-held teach pendant.
  • Support production technicians in resolving and addressing process or equipment problems as needed.
  • Analyze equipment and OEE data for trends, variation, activities for productivity and yield enhancement improvement.
  • Assist Engineering with process and equipment improvements.
  • Maintain housekeeping in work areas and equipment in accordance with 5S and Lean manufacturing principles
  • Perform equipment alarm recovery tasks.
  • Develop operating procedures, maintenance schedules, and instructions within company systems, formats and guidelines, especially during the first-year ramp-up phase.
  • Maintain and consolidate reporting data by searching equipment logs and production databases.  Analyze SPC data as needed for trending to initiate preemptive action and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Optimize product flow and line efficiency by improving tools, and work methods using the 5S methodology.
  • Active participation in special task teams as required, with the goal of improving equipment uptime, cost reductions and reduction of scheduled and un-scheduled downtime events.

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of experience, knowledge, and skills:

  • Must have a minimum of 4 years related work experience and an Associate’s degree in a technical discipline.  An Associate’s degree is strongly preferred but equivalent experience or combination of work and military experience is also acceptable.
  • Must have 4 years experience working in a highly automated, high-volume manufacturing environment with proven experience supporting robotics and other automated capital equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience supporting floor mount and gantry style Robotics (I.E. Reis or Fanuc), hydraulics, vacuum, robotic safety interlock systems, PLCs (I.E. SIEMENS, Allen Bradley) and RJ31B Controller is required.
  • Must have a solid understanding of PLCs and be able to troubleshoot, alter and re-write ladder logic programs for PLCs.
  • Specific experience programming FANUC and/or REIS robotics is highly desired.
  • Advanced electro-mechanical trouble shooting skills are required. Including, basic electronics expertise, which may be tested.
  • Must have knowledge of how to develop and execute effective PM’s per manufacturer specifications.  Preference for candidates who have worked with equipment vendors to improve PM’s to reduce scheduled downtime and enhance equipment uptime.
  • Intermediate expertise with basic MS Office productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, PP) and intermediate experience with factory MES, ERP and SPC is required.
  • Proven ability to work well with production personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, team environment.
  • Strong desire to bring best practices to the team, share your knowledge and expertise and enable your team members' mutual success as the organization continues to grow.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Must be able to travel to other SunPower sites domestically and internationally, as required, for knowledge transfer and problem solving. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid passport.

Additional Requirements – Must be able to:

  • Stand or sit for long periods.
  • Perform tasks (that may be repetitive) that require reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, stooping and/or bending.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in an environment that generates OSHA permissible machine noise levels.
  • Visually, observe and differentiate small moving parts.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Work a 12 hour compressed work week shift, either day or night.
  • Alternate schedules as needed to meet production goals.
  • Use and operate ladders, man lifts, cherry pickers, and other large equipment.
