Job Description:  Maintenance Technician 2 - Module


About the Position

This is a compressed work week night shift position reporting to the Maintenance Manager.  The Maintenance Technician will become certified in the operation and maintenance of multiple automated production equipment sets in the Module production area.  Will work with process and manufacturing equipment engineers to ensure efficient day-to-day production operations in a high-volume, 24x7 manufacturing facility.  Works as a team member to continuously improve production processes, equipment reliability and tool performance.


Essential Functions:


  • Troubleshoot to determine robot malfunctions, using knowledge of programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, problem-solve, and maintain electrical control problems for all manufacturing equipment. Disassemble robots and/or peripheral equipment to repair or replace defective circuit boards, sensors, controllers, encoders, servomotors, servo valves, or automatic lubrication systems
  • Perform and drive safe behaviors in all tasks and areas. Initiate and drive safety improvements in the methods, machines, processes and areas.
  • Perform Minor and Major equipment maintenance tasks to established work instructions and procedures.
  • Initiate investigations and corrective actions to problems with rigorous problem solving (Cause and Effect, Root Cause Analysis) methodology.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance for tools, robotics, and other automated equipment. Initiate continuous improvements in PMs to improve uptime, safety, quality and overall cost reductions.
  • Program robot for series of manipulator (arm-hand) moves (movements) manually or by electronic instructions to a microprocessor or by setting up and adjusting sequence by hand-held teach pendant.
  • Support production operators in resolving and addressing process or equipment problems as needed.
  • Assist Engineering with process and equipment improvements.
  • Maintain housekeeping in work areas and equipment in accordance with 5S and Lean manufacturing principles
  • Perform equipment alarm recovery tasks.
  • Develop operating procedures, maintenance schedules, and instructions within company systems, formats and guidelines, especially during the first-year ramp-up phase.
  • Active participation in special task teams as required, with the goal of improving equipment uptime, cost reductions and reduction of scheduled and un-scheduled downtime events.



Position Requirements


The successful candidate will possess the following combination of experience, knowledge and skills:


  • Associate’s Degree in a related technical discipline (e.g., Automation, Robotics, Electronics Engineering) is required or equivalent work experience.  Must have 2+ years’ experience as a production Maintenance Technician in a highly automated, high-volume manufacturing environment. 
  • Must be able to work independently as well as thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, team environment.
  • Strong desire to bring best practices to the team, share your knowledge and expertise and enable your team members' mutual success as the organization continues to grow.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Must have proven experience supporting robotics and other automated capital equipment.  Equivalent combination of work and military experience is also acceptable.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with floor mount and gantry style Robotics (REIS, FANUC), hydraulics, vacuum, and robotic safety interlock systems is required.
  • Basic electro-mechanical trouble shooting skills are required. Including, basic electronics expertise, which may be tested.
  • Must have knowledge of how to perform basic PM’s per manufacturer specifications.  Preference for candidates who have worked with equipment vendors to improve PM’s to reduce scheduled downtime and enhance equipment uptime.
  • Intermediate computer skills are required including familiarity with windows-based programs such as Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook).


Additional Requirements – Must be able to:

  • Stand or sit for long periods.
  • Perform tasks (that may be repetitive) that require reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, stooping and/or bending.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in an environment that generates OSHA permissible machine noise levels.
  • Visually, observe and differentiate small moving parts.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Work a 12 hour compressed work week night shift
  • Alternate schedules as needed to meet production goals.
  • Use and operate ladders, man lifts, cherry pickers, and other large equipment.


Minimum Requirements:

  •  High school diploma or equivalent required.
  •  Associates degree and 1+ years related experience OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience.
