Manager, Commercial Storage Business Development




SunPower seeks an entrepreneurial, high impact individual to drive sales growth for SunPower’s Commercial (C&I) Energy Storage Business in the US.  As a member of the Commercial Storage Business Development Team, this individual will work closely with several SunPower Sales Channels including our Enterprise and Public Sector.  The successful candidate will independently identify, assess, architect, and close energy storage project paired with SunPower’s commercial solar solutions.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Working with SunPower commercial solar sales team, develop and close distributed energy storage projects, paired with SunPower PV projects, in the northeastern US, with focus on Massachusetts SMART opportunities.
  • Identify and analyze value proposition and deal structure for complex storage projects including resiliency, DC coupled storage and front of meter connected storage in the northeast
  • Independently assess strategic sales, marketing, partnership, financing, and channel partner strategies for growth. 
  • Engage with senior-level and management representatives internal and external to the company. Work with SunPower sales channel leaders to develop actionable, measurable strategic initiatives.
  • Meet with customers, potential partners, and strategic service providers to discover new opportunities for growth.  
  • Develop presentations appropriate for executive management that communicate strategic and financial benefits of business development initiatives.
  • Engage with market participants, industry groups, and regulators to understand subject matter state-of-the-art and current industry thinking and trends.
  • Integrate partner offers where appropriate to meet business goals.
  • Financial tracking and reporting of strategy and business development efforts, regional performance, and business planning results.




Minimum requirements - The least amount of skills and training candidates must have to do a specific job. Candidates not meeting these requirements will not be hired for this position.

  • B.S. degree and 6+ years related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and years of related experience
  • Relevant experience within distributed energy generation, energy management, solar sales, energy regulatory, or similar industries
  • Understanding of northeastern distributed energy market dynamics, including emerging incentive programs, local tariff structures and ISO rules and procedures governing participation of distributed energy resources.
  • Experience/ability to independently, directly engage clients and close deals is required
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required
  • Experience managing project teams, both directly and through matrix organizations
  • Ability to incorporates business strategy into key deliverables
  • Must be willing to travel domestically no more than 40%


Preferred requirements

  • Postgraduate coursework desirable (MBA or Masters/PhD)
  • Ability to dispassionately assess and prioritize business development activities
  • Preference will be given to candidates that possess technical backgrounds and have experience with energy storage or experience within utility or ISO markets.



  • This position reports to the Senior Manager of Commercial Storage Business Development
  • Job is located in SunPower’s Boston, MA office, with some flexible location options.
  • Travel to customers within the US, as well as SunPower US offices, will be required but will not typically be expected to exceed 40 percent.
