The Tax Director is responsible for US Partnership and Corporate tax returns for various asset management services provided by the company, with a significant focus on flip partnership tax returns.  The Director is responsible for managing and directing all activities regarding tax research, planning and compliance required of the companies supported including US tax provisioning and works closely with the Accounting team for the corporate return and audit work related to the corporate audit. Develops and implements systems to support data collection, data analysis, preparation and submission for various tax filings. Works to optimize the tax obligation of the corporation and is expected to discuss strategical decisions with executive management when evaluating structuring options.  The Tax Director should have in-depth knowledge of US tax law and US tax accounting, especially in regards to flip partnerships and mergers and acquisitions.

 


Scope:

  • Develops strategy, establishes the planning process, and provides guidance on potential mergers and acquisitions.
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with various internal and external customers / corporate leaders to understand business transactions and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Sets policy and direction.
  • Oversees GAAP reporting of US Taxes and any related US GAAP issues for the corporation, including the calculation of the current tax provision and deferred taxes.
  • Fully accountable for a designated function or department's success, including management of external consultants to ensure work is performed accurately, timely and in a cost-effective way.
  • Owns a significant number of measurable functional, operational, and strategic goals.

 

Complexity:

  • Directs the planning, staffing, budgeting, cost/expense, and people management.
  • Acts as a key advisor to executive management, influencing business strategic direction.


Impact / Discretion:

  • Poor decisions will seriously impact functional, division, or company operations and success.
  • Operates on a company-wide basis, making a budget, resource allocation, technology and process decision with wide-ranging impact.


Interaction:

  • Accountable for operational success, strategic alignment, and process integration with other major functional areas.
  • Collaborates with executives and major internal and external customers.
  • Engages in senior-level negotiations, internally and externally, with the ability to influence opinion and establish business direction.
  • Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods.


Supervision:

  • Directs the activities of a broad functional area through departmental managers.


Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of related experience ·  And 4+ years of people management experience
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience
