SunPower is seeking to hire an Indirect Senior Tax Manager located in Austin, TX. This position will be responsible for the management of all aspects of the sales and use and property tax compliance process, planning, audits, and system integration. This individual will also work with in-house customers to advise on indirect tax issues, options/solutions, cost, and risk analysis.  Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax, telecommunications tax, GST/HST, and VAT filings.
  • Review and approve monthly indirect tax accruals and GL reconciliations.
  • Responds accurately and timely to inquiries from internal stakeholders and external vendors/customers regarding taxability of purchases or sales.
  • Analyzes existing and new software systems and business processes to ensure proper compliance/audit data, reporting capabilities and record retention.
  • Identify and assist with the implementation of system and process improvements
  • Handle all audits by tax authorities and provide documents requested by financial auditors.
  • Track all tax assessment notices and manage them through closure.
  • Work with billing to ensure proper invoicing of indirect taxes.
  • Perform nexus reviews to ensure the company is registered in all required jurisdictions and registers the company in the new locations for all indirect taxes
  • Responsible for providing management with estimated and actual sales, use and property tax accrual information, as well as information on other indirect tax filings
  • Performs research and acts as an advisor for tax management and other departments to achieve efficient tax savings and compliance.
  • Monitors and reviews taxability of purchase transactions.
  • Prepares and delivers detailed tax training to minimize taxability errors and exposures, and to maximize tax credits and exemptions.
  • Owns the sales and purchases exemption certificate processes.
  • Assists procurement and legal in reviewing and making recommendations for tax-related clauses in corporate contracts in assigned tax areas.
  • Participates as indirect tax lead on new company projects by attending meetings to sure proper tax planning and implementation before “go live” dates.
  • Identifies indirect tax issues impacting the company and performs analysis and research to resolve appropriate action.
  • Assists in due diligence and integration of newly acquired businesses as needed.
  • Review, assess, and lead external tax advisers.
  • Works on related projects and/or assignments as needed.
  • Maintain desktop procedures and SOX compliance.
  • Update and maintain tax calendar.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business and 8+ years of related experience
  • Strong accounting background and understanding

 

Preferred Requirements

  • 8-12 years of relevant experience
  • Previous experience in both private and public accounting firms (renewable energy experience preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and perform job tasks independently in an unstructured environment with limited direction
  • Capable of identifying any issues and working to resolve them independently
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, growing company
  • Detail-oriented and capable of driving multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and ability to work closely with members of different business groups and functions of a global company at all level
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time both domestically and internationally
