Summary of Role:

The Reliability & FA Technician will support the Reliability Engineering group with test scheduling, execution, monitoring and reporting, preliminary troubleshooting and failure analysis along with lab upkeep. Some of the daily tasks will include, but not limited to:

  • Scheduling: Regularly co-ordinate with the reliability engineering group update and maintain the test scheduler with on-going and upcoming projects
  • Test fixture assembly: Participate in test fixture development discussions and assist with test fixture assembly and installation, per inputs from the reliability test engineer
  • Test setup: Assist the Reliability test engineer with test setup per test plan requirements
  • Test monitoring and reporting: Regularly monitor test progress, analyze basic test data and report to the reliability engineering group in a timely manner; start and stop chambers and test profiles as needed; log any anomalous behavior of the DUT (device under test), test peripherals or chambers
  • Failure analysis: Perform optical microscopy, sample prep, grinding/polishing, ICT (in-circuit testing) while consulting with reliability, product engineering and validation groups
  • Lab upkeep: Ensure test equipment and chambers are kept functional and calibrated; schedule chamber maintenance as needed; receive and store DUTs pre and post-test in an organized manner

 

This position will report to the Reliability Engineer.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all phases of testing from planning to completion, as needed
  • Build electro-mechanical test fixtures and cabling for new product reliability testing
  • Procure parts, maintain inventory and relevant documentation of equipment and chambers for successful test execution
  • Support lab management to ensure chamber availability
  • Document and report test updates and test results on a regular basis
  • Assist the engineering team in preliminary troubleshooting / failure investigations for problems identified during lab testing or for field returns
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and builds strong working relationships with cross-functional teams
  • Perform LockOut / TagOut procedures

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a lab with mechanical and electrical hardware and related test equipment
  • Basic soldering techniques
  • Experience operating environmental chambers or other production/testing equipment
  • Understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components
  • Ability to comprehend specific instructions from the test plan and build test setups
  • Experience with 120Vac equipment, principles of 120Vac wiring
  • Familiarity with safety practices around high-power equipment and cables
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Demonstrates a desire to learn and develop technical skills and test processes
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office tools such as Word and Excel
  • Associates Degree or higher in engineering or another technical field, OR 3+ years of work experience in the fields of electronics, mechanical, or electrical OR equivalent experience in an industrial setting along with training courses (e.g., Technical, Safety, Engineering, Electrical contractor), apprenticeship, or similar formal learning

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some use of lab equipment such as power supplies, data loggers, O-scopes and handheld DMM
  • Experience with command line windows operations such as Linux or Powershell
  • Basic experience working in an electronics failure analysis lab, including non-destructive e.g., optical microscopy and destructive physical analysis techniques such as grinding/polishing/milling with careful attention to sample prep is a plus

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Some lifting is required, up to 50 pounds
