Summary of Role

The Junior Technical Writer will support the Applications & Technical Support group in its effort to communicate effectively with customers in support of SunPower products and services. This person will provide assistance to and manage tasks as directed by the Director, Applications and Technical Support, and the Senior Technical Writer.


Documentation tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Creation and development of new documentation (text and graphics)
  • Updating and maintaining existing documents
  • Editing the documents or work products of colleagues
  • Indexing and assisting others with access to documents


In this role, the Junior Technical Writer will interact with the Senior Technical Writer, members of the Applications and Technical Support team, product engineering, and other subject matter experts to compile and communicate information needed to support SunPower products and services


This role will be based in Austin, TX or remote if based in or near one of SunPower’s major markets. Occasional day trips or overnight travel in the US may be required. Up to 10% travel my be required.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Junior Technical Writer will:

  • Collaborate with internal teams and SMEs to document the process by which SunPower products are installed, operated, and maintained; and/or the process by which SunPower services are accessed and applied.
  • Independently produce outlines and content.
  • Work with the Senior Technical Writer to set and manage documentation priorities.
  • Produce and manage schedules to complete work as planned, including work with stakeholders with critical-path deliverables.
  • Always be prepared to report on project status.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years’ experience in writing or editing
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Expertise in MS Word
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite including PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook; as well as with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to integrate constructive feedback.
  • Ability to:
    • read, analyze, and interpret, and convey technical procedures and diagrams.
    • effectively present information to the layperson. 
    • participate in technical discussions and summarize relevant discussion points. 
    • convey technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences.


Physical Demands and Working Conditions

This is an office or remote working situation. Individuals working remotely will be expected to provide a dedicated office space. While performing the duties of the job, individuals may be asked to visit active construction sites where they could be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles or risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate. Safety is always paramount.

Travel throughout the US may be required. Up to 10% travel with infrequent overnight stays.
