We are seeking a bright, self-motivated, Staff Level IoT Application Engineer (III) to join the Residential Products Team.

The residential applications engineering team is the “voice of the customer” and is the bridge between engineering and the field. The AE team ensures a successful rollout of new products and uses a closed-loop learning process to influence the roadmap of new product development and sustaining product improvements. The AE team are top-level product subject matter experts (SMEs) and provide top-level escalation support. The AE team determines the root cause of field and product issues and solves them or engages development to implement solutions. The AE team works with many functional groups including engineering development, sales, customers, manufacturing, operations, and technical support.

A strong preference is for candidates with previous IoT experience specifically dealing with home networking challenges. However, candidates with a proven track record of applications engineering excellence in other industries will be considered.


Minimum requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering and 2+ years of related experience or 4+ years of related experience
  • Significant experience with commissioning and debugging home and small business LAN/WAN networks including routers, switches and modems for both wired Ethernet and wireless WiFi
  • Ability to use of various scripting tools and network protocol analyzers (Wireshark) to diagnose field issues
  • Proven experience working with customers/partners and field personal in solving IoT issues and root causing failures.
  • Deep knowledge of the Linux operating system.
  • Familiarity with issue tracking tools (Jira), GIT repo/workflows and Agile processes.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.

Preferred skills/experience

  • Top tier of university education in either Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience using various cloud based tools (Splunk, Pi Server, etc.) for diagnostics  
  • Experience with Cellular and other WPANs (Zigbee, Bluetooth, etc.)
  • Use of electrical engineering lab/field equipment (Scopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters)
  • Python and C/C++ programming skills


  • Provide the highest level of technical support to solve complex multi-disciplinary issues. Use a closed-loop learning process to prevent reoccurrence of these issues
  • Write system product acceptance criteria.
  • Write technical notifications and support training and technical documentation groups.
  • Contribute to product development process with other engineering teams.
  • Work with training channel and NPI groups to ensure a successful launch of new products.
  • Provide top-level product subject matter expertise to field and other customer-facing resources
  • Ensure field closed-loop learnings are integrated into product development roadmap.
  • Manage a large IoT fleet comprising of millions of nodes
