Summary- Business Development Manager


We are seeking a proven Business Development individual with a history of selling and qualifying business or public organization leads for $10+ million solar projects. In this position, you will be responsible for driving early sales funnel targeting and account acquisition across two main functions:

  1. Outbound cold calling, identifying and qualifying sales opportunities, nurturing existing prospects, mining existing relationships for new opportunities, managing leads from events and marketing campaigns, and managing the daily activities associated with corporate strategic selling.  
  2. Inbound lead handling from live or digital sources, with associated account and contact management, and handoff to account managers and executives.

We are looking for an individual to immediately integrate into the broader Commercial sales organization.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Field inbound calls and leads from various sources and qualify for business potential.
  • Outbound cold-calls to a defined set of target prospect accounts.
  • Contact prospects and partners through, but not limited to, phone calls, email and other digital targeting, mailings, and invitations to communicate opportunities to extend initiatives with the company.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales/channel management to facilitate new programs, messages, campaigns, and offerings.
  • Ensure hand-offs to sales are successful, and exceed customer's satisfaction.
  • Maintain metrics and dashboards for reporting and process improvements.
  • Ensure reporting and communications is frequent and bi-directional.
  • Develop and manage processes to improve lead qualification and pipeline management.
  • Early-stage selling and Account Management.
  • Train the sales team to use Salesforce to properly maintain pipeline metrics and track leads.


Job Requirements:

  • Proven history of building and maintaining successful relationships at all organizational levels with prospective and existing customers.
  • 2-3 years of demonstrated inside sales, outside sales, or business development success.
  • Superior knowledge of CRM (SFDC), and MS Office tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • BS or BA in a technical or business discipline preferred.
  • Self-motivated, energetic personality with exceptional telephone and selling skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have strong time management skills.
  • Understanding of (or ability to quickly learn) renewable energy industry, grid-tied solar electric sales/design/installation.
  • Ability to keep track of quickly-changing market conditions regarding solar incentive funding, product development, and competitive landscape.
