Senior Manager, Residential Field and Partner Operations

Family Description:

Oversees construction activities for large-sized construction sites, supervising all personnel working on a project including construction managers, project admins and field staff. May serve as primary customer contact. Ensures contraction projects are completed on time and to the client's satisfaction. Assists in staffing, outlining project plans, setting project goals/deadlines and evaluating performance


Scope:

 

Role Summary: Lead all Field Operations for New Homes Channel, including Field Management Team, Installation Partner Management, and Commissioning Efforts.  Strong Leadership skills are a must.

R&Rs:

  • Develop Long Term Labor strategy for NH as we scale for growth, considering:
    • Capacity and Relationships with Current IPs
    • IPs relationships with builders, how those relationships impact us
    • Growth estimates for the business
    • Potential use of SPRI resources (SunPower Self-Install)
    • Potential development of SunPower - NH specific installation crews
    • Impact new products like OneRoof and Storage will have on the business
  • Develop relationships with current and future IPs to:
    • Hold them accountable to the terms of the MSA (quality & Timeliness of work)
    • Share growth forecasts, identify opportunities for mutual growth
    • Develop processes for working together that work for us and for them, improvements from current state on communication and updating of statuses in tools
    • Help them streamline their operations to drive down costs and improve their margins
    • Ensure quality and safety standards are adhered to
    • Promote adoption of new program, enforce compliance (JCO, NHW, etc.)
  • Provide strategic direction for how FM team should be managed
    • Ensure Manager of FM team has standard processes and procedures in place for FMs
    • Establish mechanisms to ensure FMs can be measured
    • Hold manager of FM team accountable for measuring their team members
    • Identify areas for improvement/streamlining of FM jobs to drive down cost/make FMs more efficient
    • Help FMs have more productive/proactive time in the field by reducing amount of time they have to spend addressing fires caused by poor work from Installation Partners
    • Manage/monitor capacity plan for ensuring headcount levels are what they should be
  • Provide strategic direction for team of commissioning technicians
    • Work with team supervisor to ensure proper reporting/tracking of commissioning tech work is being monitored:
      • Total number of homes pre-commissioned by tech each week
      • % of total available homes pre-commissioned
      • % of total homes that closed COE in prior month that were pre-commissioned
      • Reasons why homes that were not pre-commissioned were not pre-commissioned (missing checklist, no cell service, etc.)
    • Manage/monitor capacity plan for ensuring headcount levels are what they should be
  • Manage relationships with external commissioning partners
    • Ensure they’re managing/completing assigned cases in a timely manner
    • Track instances where multiple truck rolls are required
    • Ensure SubCons are following protocols on site wrt customer communication
    • Identify opportunities for efficiency in process/communication with SunPower Customer Care Team re: case management
    • Collaborate with GBFS based customer care team to ensure proper throughput and handling of cases
  • Establish relationships with builder’s field resources – Dir/VP Operations, Field Superintendents, Construction Managers, to ensure builder partners have a senior level operations contact to call on in case of issues, and to build stickiness in the account
  • Work cross-functionally with other members of New Homes Team:
    • Account Management/Sales
    • Design/Permitting
    • Builder Operations Managers
    • Customer Care

How will this person spend their time:

  • Based on the responsibilities above, this person would expect to be in the field 50% of the time, office 50% of the time.  Time in field would be with IPs, FMs, Commissioning Techs, meetings builders.  Time in the office would be meeting with internal folks, developing strategy.

 

Problems this person would solve:

  • Get SunPower better leverage/negotiating power with IPs like LR, PD, SonRay
  • More thought leadership/follow through on novel labor strategies
  • More day to day ownership of progress commissioning techs are making, how we’re tracking our cost savings, what more we could/should be doing
  • Develop relationships with Builder Ops folks so we have balanced contacts/representation with builders – not just on sales side
  • Add structure to FM role, hold them accountable
    • Develop reports to track activity

  • Applies expert knowledge, managing staff to resolve complex business and technical issues.
  • Introduces state-of-the-art technology and processes, encouraging learning, challenge and debate.

     

Impact / Discretion:

  • Poor decisions will result in critical delays and impact unit operations. Overall business activity may be jeopardized.
  • Engages in decision-making that governs short- and medium-term project planning and implementation.

  • Manages activities of other managers and/or senior level individual contributors.
  • Plans, directs and monitors staff activities.
  • Able to influence thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations - without damaging relations.
  • Responsible for developing and delivering performance reviews and compensation decisions.
  • Demonstrates leadership in applying SunPower values both within team and with others in adjacent organizations.

     

Supervision:

  • Reports to Director or above.
  • In some instances, may manage multiple functional areas and/or third party employees and, therefore, have no direct reports.

     

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of related experience
  • And 3+ years of people management experience
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience
