Summary of Role

The Permit Specialist will provide functional support to the residential permitting team by developing and owning large scale initiatives associated with jurisdictional permitting requirements, procedure documentation, production, and trainings. The Permit Specialist serves as a liaison between building departments, and internal departments by working directly with Permit Coordinators and Designers, SunPower sales and operations and home builders. They will help drive the development of SunPower’s permitting database for accurate design and timely permit collection for residential projects.  

  

Individuals applying for this position must be organized, experienced, and a leader of process. They must pay attention to detail, proactively identify requirements, communicate potential roadblocks, and facilitate resolutions so projects remain on schedule. The Permit Specialist serves as a primary subject matter expert on department requirements and SunPower permit processes. This is position and will provide functional support and coaching to members of the Permitting Team.  

 

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Provide support to initiatives related to improving permitting processes and performance 

  • Perform new market research 

  • Understand and explicate solar design plan sets: roof layouts, equipment specifications, single line diagrams  

  • Facilitate increased production through centralized team for online permit submittals  

  • Strategically reduce permit administration and submittal costs  

  • Complete ongoing research and data entry to maintain current requirements in the jurisdiction database  

  • Develop and standardize process through research, experience, documentation, and ongoing training  

  • Utilize Salesforce reports and dashboards to manage production pipeline and coordinate permitting team efforts  

  • Develop and maintain a good rapport with building departments and builder customers  

  • Guide internal and external teams to the specific building department process of where work is being executed  

  • Participate in regional permit team meetings to distribute updates, generate discussion, and ensure team understanding of company policies and announcements  

  • Provide leadership, coaching and support to the permitting team to complete permitting and rework tasks as needed to comply with interdepartmental service level agreements   

  • Utilize forecasting tools, team performance and employee feedback to provide insight in resourcing needs to facilitate consistent and on-time production volume  

  • Work closely with SunPower operations staff, design team, account managers and others internally as needed. Be involved in cross-team initiatives, projects, process updates, etc.  

  • Performs other duties as assigned  

   

Required Qualifications:  

  • 2 years of relevant experience and 4-year degree or equivalent years of relevant experience 

  • 2+ years’ experience working in a CRM platform like salesforce to manage production  

  • 1+ years' experience working with and supporting contractors remotely to meet project timelines  

   

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Strong understanding of state and local code requirements 

  • 1+ years’ experience managing a permit team of runners is a plus

  • The position requires travel with the potential of overnight stays between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. Less than or equal to 30% travel.  

  • Day to day work is completed in the office or remotely at personal computer M-F, first shift hours
