SUMMARY OF ROLE

The SunPower Interconnection & Incentives team performs a critical role of interface between SunPower’s commercial customers, the utility and project management teams to provide support throughout the solar installation project lifecycle.  The Interconnections & Incentives team are the subject matter experts at interpreting state and utility specific rules and regulations in order to secure the best available utility incentives and ensure a seamless interconnection.

 The Manager Interconnections and Incentives will manage a team of Interconnections and Incentives Coordinators, will be the primary voice for SunPower to Utilities in the West, and will (as needed) provide direct project interconnection and incentive administration.  This position is based in our Richmond office and will report to Director of Development Engineering, West. The role is responsible for ensuring that all team members have the requisite trainings and skills to effectively manage interconnections and incentives in a wide range of scenarios, from simple NEM <1MWP to direct feed >50MWP.  Additionally, this role will serve as liaison to the entire Commercial EPC sales, engineering, and project management teams to increase awareness and knowledge of interconnection and incentives requirements. 

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):

  • Manage domestic I&I coordinators, and supervise overseas I&I team, to ensure proactive collaboration with utilities to ensure incentives and interconnection agreements are successfully executed.
  • Develop and implement trainings for team and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Maintain online Business Process Manual with links to relevant trainings, policy documents, forms, organizational information and etc.
  • Develop, implement and maintain information sharing process for all projects from origination to COD to ensure that internal stakeholders have complete and accurate information as needed.
  • As needed, coordinate with customers and utilities to gather and file all required program paperwork and incentive documentation
  • As needed, submit interconnection applications and manage their progression through the utility process in various utilities for multiple projects at differing stages of development; report on current status
  • Creatively solve interconnection and incentive challenges by building coalitions externally including other solar developers, industry associations, and regulatory agencies

 

RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements - 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+years’ experience with utility interconnection of renewable assets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with ability to adjust communication style for interactions with utilities, customers and other stakeholders
  • Passionate drive and work ethic with a growth mindset able to rapidly adapt in a fluid business landscape
  • Familiarity with electric utilities and self generation interconnections

 

 

Preferred requirements

  • Direct professional relationships with PG&E, SCE, LADWP, SDG&E and/or other key California utilities
  • Intimate knowledge of distributed generation technology/industry
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or Data Science
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to see the big picture, anticipate problems and how they will affect the project team, and proactively address these issues
